Why We Built a Small Business Website You Can Buy Online

Why JDX built the Starter site: a focused 5-page small business website you can buy online and start without a discovery call. What it includes, how the deposit works, and what it costs after launch.

Azalea & Oak Hair Studio, a demo site JDX built for a fictional salon.

At JDX, we believe every small business deserves a home online. A place that is yours, that says who you are and what you do, and that people can find when they go looking. Not a borrowed profile on someone else's platform. A real site, made with care.

We also believe that site should be good. Being small is no reason to settle for a site that feels generic. The bakery, the contractor, the consultant and the family practice deserve the same attention to quality as anyone else.

That belief is why we built something new.

What we decided

JDX is a veteran-owned web development company in Virginia. We decided to create one focused package for small businesses that need to get online and be visible: the Starter site.

It is a 5-page website. Home, About and Contact are fixed, and you choose two more pages, such as Services, Pricing, FAQ or Testimonials. You name every page. It comes with a contact form that delivers to your email, and basic on-page SEO to help people find it.

The five pages of the Azalea & Oak demo site as a map: Home in the center, linked to About and Contact, which are included, and to Services and FAQ, the two pages picked for this site

We kept it focused on purpose. One clear package, one clear price, built for the business that needs a solid home on the web and does not need anything complicated to get there.

The trained eye

A small business website should be built by someone with a trained eye for the little details. Those details are the difference between a site that looks fine on one screen and a site that holds up for every visitor. On every Starter site, that means:

  • Mobile-responsive on all screen sizes. The layout works on the phone in your customer's hand, not just on a desktop monitor.
  • Accessibility built in. Every site is built to WCAG 2.2 AA and tested before launch, so more people can use it.
  • A fast build. Starter sites are built on Next.js and hosted on Vercel, and they pass Core Web Vitals on mobile at launch.
  • Basic on-page SEO. Meta titles, descriptions and structured data are set up so search engines can understand your pages.

Most visitors will never notice any of this, and that is the point. They will just find a site that loads, reads well and works.

What we streamlined

If you are ready to take the step, we have streamlined the process. You can buy the Starter site right on our site. You do not need a discovery call to start a Starter site. If you would rather talk before you start, the contact page reaches the JDX team.

Here is how it works:

  1. Pay a 20% deposit at checkout. You confirm the Starter site terms before you pay.
  2. Fill in your intake form. It arrives right away, and it is where you tell us about your business and choose your pages.
  3. We build your site. Most Starter sites are delivered in 2 to 4 weeks from kickoff.
  4. You review the site. It comes to you for review when it is ready.
  5. The balance is invoiced. The remaining balance is invoiced when your site is ready for your review.

The details

The list price is $2,000. Prices here are list prices. Any active sale shows on the pay button.

The 20% deposit is $400 at the list price. The deposit is non-refundable. Paying it starts your project. Please read the Starter site terms before you check out.

Hosting + management is required after launch at $45/month. It covers:

  • Domain management and renewal
  • Dependency updates and security patches
  • Basic copy changes, up to 2 requests a month
  • Site uptime monitoring

Your build also includes 30 days of post-launch support.

The Starter site is not built for ecommerce, membership sites, booking systems, or custom features and integrations. Those are custom builds, scoped per project, and they start with a call. To see a starting price for one, try the project scoping calculator, or read more on our custom builds page.

FAQ

Do I need a discovery call to start?

No. You do not need a discovery call to start a Starter site. Pay the deposit and your intake form arrives right away. If you would rather talk first, the contact page reaches the JDX team. Custom builds start with a call.

Is the deposit refundable?

No. The deposit is non-refundable. Please read the Starter site terms before you pay.

Can I update the site myself after launch?

Not directly. Next.js sites do not have a visual editor, so updates go through the JDX team. Basic copy changes are included in hosting + management. For new pages or larger updates, the Website Care plan adds dedicated update hours.
