Man Utd win away at Bologna 4-0 after Man Utc equalise
Man UtD beat Bolognas 4-1 to become the first team in Serie A history to win away from home against a non-League side.
The Nerazzurri were held to a goalless draw at the Stadio Olimpico by the Giallorossi at the weekend, but Antonio Conte’s men had to beat Lazio in the Champions League on Tuesday night to claim their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
The result moves Lazio into fourth in the table and their win over Bolognians was a sign of how strong the Serie A season has been this term.
Conte’s side were able to exploit a weak Bolognese defence and hit the front before Antonio Conci and Giorgio Chiellini opened the scoring.
A shot from Alessandro Pirlo bounced just wide of the post but Lazio were level within a minute.
The visitors had chances to double their lead but Conte, whose side are unbeaten in Serie D this season, held firm and the home side responded well to a free-kick from Adem Ljajic that struck the post.
The Nerazos were forced into a change of formation for the second half but they had more of an impact in the closing stages.
Conte had to make two changes to the side that beat Boca Juniors in the Europa League last weekend.
Josip Ilicic, who was introduced from the bench, replaced Antonio Barzagli in the centre of defence and Antonio Candreva replaced Adem Medunjanin in the number 10 role.
Conway was replaced by Adem Nabuli but the Slovenian found the back of the net with a header.
The goal came after a penalty kick from Candrevas, which had Lazio back in front at the break.
The Bianconeri had a penalty appeal turned down and were awarded a free kick.
Lazio goalkeeper Gianluca Di Marzio then gave away a penalty for a foul on Barzaglin.
But the hosts looked to have added another when Nabulis cross came back off the bar and the striker smashed home.
It was the first time in eight games that Lazio had been held to the goalline since March of this year, but the result will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Nerazzos.
Lazio now sit four points clear at the top of Serie A and face Juventus in the quarter-finals.
